St James' Surgery

HOW DO I...
KNOW THE BEST TIME TO PHONE?

Our telephones are covered from 8.00am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.

We have four incoming lines which are answered by three telephones in reception. The fourth call is queued until a phone becomes free.

There are three receptionists on duty from 8.00am to cover the telephones. The calls are answered as quickly as possible, but inevitably some calls take longer than others, for example a request for a doctor to make a home visit.
The morning peak lasts until about 8.30am.

If you want a routine appointment or details of test results, please phone after 11.00am.

HOW DO I...
REQUEST A HOME VISIT?

Home visits are done at the discretion of the doctor and are for those patients who are too ill to attend the surgery. Please telephone before 10.00am if you require a home visit. The receptionist will need to be able to explain to the doctor what your symptoms are and how long you have had them, what medication you are taking and confirm your full name, address and telephone number. The doctor may phone you prior to any visit. If you consider a call to be particularly urgent please make this clear to the receptionist so that the doctor can be informed immediately.

HOW DO I...
OBTAIN TEST RESULTS?

If your doctor has asked you to telephone for test results then please do so after 11.00am. In all other cases please make an appointment to see the doctor for the results.
